That was the name of the legendary mistress and ruler of the desert city Palmyra. Today the DJ- duo from Haifa, which whisks up melodies from Arabic pop music with electronic beats to form an irresistible groovy melange. “The Arab Music revolution starts here”, was the title of an article in the Israeli newspaper, Ha’arez, about the young duo, who have been working together for two years. And indeed, Nasser Halahlih and Isam Elias are inspired by any sort of music that is danced to, between the Levant and the Nile. And from this music, using keyboards and computer, they make, as they put it themselves, “electronic authentic Arabian music”. Or, to put it more simply: Music which makes you want to wiggle your bottom and move your legs.
