West Eastern Flights of Fantasy
The Syrian Nezar Omran is one of only a few musicians who can play the Arabian scale, with its micro-tones, on the trumpet. During the Syrian Festival in the Elbphilharmonie in 2017 he performed in a concert with the NDR Bigband. There he met his German colleague, Ingolf Burkhardt, for the first time. Burkhardt has been a permanent member of the NDR Bigband since 1990, and during this time has performed with such jazz legends as Quincy Jones, Al Jarreau and Bobby McFerrin. The trumpeters, who were brought up in so completely different musical milieus, were so fascinated by one another that they decided to continue working together. Two other wonderful musicians will share the stage with the trumpeters: At the piano is one of the most exciting jazz pianists of our time, Florian Weber. The New York Times wrote of his “aesthetic of aerodynamic fluency” and the Süddeutsche Zeitung called him “an exceptional pianist with a fresh, bright tone”. The percussionist Hogir Göregen grew up in Istanbul. At a young age the melting pot on the Bosporus sparked his early interest for a variety of musical trends. Since then he has moved to Berlin and can be heard in a wide variety of musical formations, right up to orchestral productions.
For the Morgenland Festival Osnabrück the four musicians will meet for the first time. A musical summit meeting!
