Kinan Azmeh & NDR Bigband
The clarinetist Kinan Azmeh is a frequent guest at the Morgenland Festival Osnabrück, either with his Ensemble Hewar and Jivan Gasparyan or the Uyghur singer Perhat Khaliq, with Giora Feidman or the Osnabrück Symphony Orchestra, or as a founding member of the Morgenland All Star Band. He studied clarinet in his home town of Damascus, as well as at the Julliard School in New York, is a member of Yo-Yo Ma’s Silkroad Ensemble and has just published his latest double album, “Uneven Sky”. On it he plays clarinet concertos by contemporary Syrian composers, as well as compositions by himself, together with the Deutsche Symphony Orchestra, Berlin. This Saturday he can be heard as soloist with the NDR Bigband in the VW Werkshalle 2. The NDR Bigband was also a frequent guest at the Morgenland Festival Osnabrück. The ensemble is based in Hamburg and is regarded by many as one of the finest bigbands in the world. Its members are not just virtuos on their instruments, but also stylistically flexible and always open for unusual projects. Wolf Kerschek has arranged Kinan Azmeh’s works for bigband and will also conduct today’s concert. The musician from Hamburg is not only vibraphonist, conductor and composer, but also one of the Germany’s most sought-after arrangers. He has worked, amongst others, with Roger Cicero, Rammstein, Helene Fischer, Till Brönner, as well as various film orchestras.
The Jazz trumpeter Ingolf Burkhard and the Chinese Sheng virtuoso Wu Wei met during last year’s Morgenland Festival Osnabrück. And their wish to perform together was quickly achieved. In April the two musicians played in a concert at the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg as part of a project with the NDR Bigband. Today they are the “opening act” for the concert with Kinan Azmeh and the NDR Bigband.
A shuttle service is available to and from the VW factory. Further information is available later on here.
