Gurdjieff Ensemble & Hewar

The Syrian ensemble Hewar and the Gurdjieff Ensemble from Armenia are no strangers to the Morgenland Festival Osnabrück. They met for the first time at the festival and will now embark on a musical journey to discover the cultural history of their two countries and their connections, which go back hundreds of years. The programme includes two works specially commissioned for this project, Armenian spiritual and secular music, compositions by Hewar, as well as traditional music and improvisations. In the last hundred years innumerable Syrians and Armenians have been forced to experience the sadness of having to flee their home countries. In 1915 Syria offered thousands of Armenians a new homeland. Now there are millions of Syrians on the search for a new homeland. The concert is a homage to the neighbourliness of the two countries and an appeal for lasting peace.

In collaboration with the Elbphilharmonie, Hamburg and the Holland Festival, Amsterdam.
